There is a lot of elevation gain, and it’s one of those hikes that goes up and down constantly. It can be disheartening to hike down after hiking up 1,000 feet but this is what type 2 fun is all about. It’s miserable while it’s happening, but fun in retrospect. Despite the challenges, I rate the Kalalau Trail a 9/10.
