HOW TO REACH US
 By train: from Milan, direct train to Sondrio/ Tirano, stop Varenna/ Esino Lario.
Go out from the train station and turn left. Near a telephone box you will find a flight of step leading to a carriage road. At the end of the steps turn right towards the road along the river. As you reach the bridge, you will find the Bar Beretta on your right, useful if you need a newspaper kiosk/cigar store (you will not find any others along the road). Go through the bridge (the road on the right compared to the road you came from) and keep going until the Hotel Restaurant Monte Codeno. On the left you will find the uphill path leading to the castle of Vezio. The rise is quite steep, but short. You will be in Vezio in less than 15 minutes.
After the washboard, the signs will let you turn right and right again. In this narrow street in porphyry you will find the shop/laboratory "Le Ceramiche di Vezio",(ceramics of Vezio), where you will find interesting glass and ceramics items and funny gift ideas, created by two local artists. If you are lucky, you will look at the opening of the stove to burn ceramics.
After this interesting stopover, keep going along the street till you reach the Saint Antonio Abate Church Square and the cemetery (certainly the smallest one you have ever seen). At the back of the square you will see a green gate, open it and go for a few steps till you reach the entrance of the Castle of Vezio.
When you have to go back to Varenna, the "Scabium" path is suggested. As you reach the Church Square, you turn right and right again after a 90% curve. You will continue along this path and you will pass under a stony bridge and at the first junction don't continue straight but turn right along the downhill path. In a few minutes you will be in Varenna enjoying a unique view.
By car: from Milan, SS36 direction Lecco. After Lecco, take the first exit for Abbadia Lariana, turn right for Varenna center and go through the village. At the bridge turn right for Esino Lario, and, after some hairpin bends, turn right again for Vezio/Castle of Vezio. Keep going until the end of the carriage road and park in the huge upper car parking. Then go on foot towards the village along the downhill street in porphyry. At the end of the street you will find on the left the restaurant "il Portichetto". If you want to go back to the castle, turn right and after left (you will be in Belvedere Square). Go straight along the narrow street to the Castle.
